 Rules and regulations: 

 Plagiarism is presenting somebody else’s work as your own. It includes: copying information directly from the Web or books without referencing the material; submitting joint coursework as an individual effort; copying another student’s coursework; stealing coursework from another student and submitting it as your own work.  Suspected plagiarism will be investigated and if found to have occurred will be dealt with according to the procedures set down by the College.  Coursework Regulations   

  • Submission of coursework must be undertaken according to the relevant procedure – whether online or paper-based. Lecturers will give information as to which procedure must be followed, and details of submission procedures and penalty fees can be obtained from Academic Administration or the general student handbook.
  • All coursework must be submitted to the Academic Admin Office and a receipt must be obtained. Under no circumstances can other College staff accept them. Please check the Academic Admin Office opening hours.
  • Late coursework will be accepted by Academic Admin Office and marked according to the guidelines given in your Student Handbook for this year.
  • If you need an extension (even for one day) for a valid reason, you must request one. Collect a coursework extension request form from the Academic Admin Office. Then take the form to your lecturer, along with evidence to back up your request. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a medical certificate in the event of you being sick. The completed form must then be returned to Academic Admin for processing. This is the only way to get an extension.
  • General guidelines for submission of coursework:
  • All work must be word-processed and must be of “good” standard.
  1. Document margins shall not be more than 2.5cm or less than 1.5cm
  2. Font size in the range of 11 to 14 points distributed to including headings and body text. Preferred typeface to be of a common standard such as Arial or Times New Roman for the main text.
  3. Any computer files generated such as program code (software), graphic files that form part of the course work must be submitted either online with the documentation or on a CD for paper submissions.
  4. The copy of the course work submitted may not be returned to you after marking and you are advised to have your personal copy for your reference.
  5. All work completed, including any software constructed may not be used for any purpose other than the purpose of intended study without prior written permission from St Patrick’s International College.

Remember to keep your coursework receipt.

PART 1 (to be submitted in week 4)

The following documents must be included in the online submission:

  • Skill audit
  • List at least five examples of types of knowledge/skills which you consider to be important for your current studies and at least five examples of types of knowledge/skills which you consider important for your future career.
  • For each type of knowledge/skill you have listed, rate your current ability using the five-point rating scale (rating scale can be found at the bottom of the skill audit word document).(AC 2.1)
  • SWOT analysis
  • List your strengths and weaknesses in relation to your current skills and any special resources that may or may not be available to you.
  • Evaluate opportunities that might arise from your strengths.
  • Evaluate possible threats that might arise from your weaknesses.(AC 2.2; 2.3)
  • Current CV and Cover Letter
  • Submit a current, word-processed CV listing your skills, education and work experience.
  • Your CV must be correctly formatted
  • You must also submit a correctly formatted cover letter written in response to a set job description (you can also choose your own job description to tailor your letter to, in which case you MUST include the job description with a reference into your assignment).
  • (You can find examples of a correctly formatted CV and cover letter, along with the job description on STP-Online)(AC 2.1; 4.2)

PART 2 (to be submitted in week 8)

  • Personal Development Plan and Reflective Log (minimum 500 words)
  • List your short and long-term objectives.
  • Provide details of how you will recognise success and measure your improvement
  • Include information on the methods you will use to achieve your learning objectives and how you will implement your plan
  • Reset the original objectives of your personal development plan after critical reflection on your learning experience.
  • Write a reflection on what gaps in your skills you have identified, how you chose to deal with them, what you did and whether it helped you progress, whether your chosen strategies were correct from the start or you had to adjust them later (minimum 500 words).(AC 2.2, 2.4; 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4; 4.3)
  • Self-managed learning and life-long development mini-essay (minimum 300 words)
  • –     Identify your own learning styles using web-links provided

–     Reflect on the results of online learning style evaluation – do you agree with them? Why? Give examples of how you normally learn and what works for you. What ways of learning do you find challenging? (minimum 300 words)(AC 1.2, 1.2, 1.3) 

PART 3 (to be submitted in week 10)

‘Talk Team UK’ is a London-based telephone banking company. The company has been performing badly for a long period of time. Its profit margin continues to fall and it has a large turnover of staff.

You have been hired for your business expertise. Your task is to identify current problems at the company and propose solutions that will motivate staff to stay at the company and perform their tasks effectively.

The following problems have been identified:

  • Most staff are paid £6.31 per hour (minimum wage). Staff are often required to work overtime, but are not paid for this extra work. There are rumours amongst staff that some employees are on a higher salary than the rest of their team, even though they perform the same tasks as their colleagues and have been at the company for the same length of time
  • The company offers very little in the way of training.
  • Promotions are rare, with the company generally choosing to hire better-qualified candidates from outside the company for higher-level positions
  • The management rarely communicates with employees.  Some employees do not know the names of their colleagues. Staff meetings are held once a year and employees have reported feeling ‘ignored’ and ‘undervalued’ during these meetings.(AC 4.1, 4.2, 4.3)

Write an essay to discuss changes you would make at ‘Talk Team UK’ in order to resolve the above work based problems (clearly highlighting the appropriate employee motivation, communication and time management strategies). (approx. 750-1000 words)

Your final submission through STP-Online must include Part 1, 2 and 3. All documents must be word-processed and submitted through STP-Online IN ONE FILE. You will need to write a General Introduction and a Conclusion. The assignment also requires a Cover Page and a Table of Contents.
