You are a recent graduate recruited to work as a trainee in the human resources department with a global company. The top company executives have completed their annual review and it is now obvious the decline in sales and increase in operating costs is impacting on shareholder profits. The CEO does not want to rush into any decisions at this point, so he has approached the management team to analyse the situation, identify areas that might be impacted, to come up with recommendations of what considerations might be needed in each department and overall operations.   The HR manager, David Oliver has identified the company will need to either downsize or restructure so he has asked you to prepare a report to analyse the impact these two options will have on employee engagement and motivation. From your research, you need to recommend the best strategies for moving the company forward and take into consideration what will potentially have the least impact on staff morale.  Report Structure: An example structure can be found in Eunson, B 2012, ‘Reports and proposals’, Communicating in the 21st century, 3rd edn, John Wiley & Sons Australia, Milton, Qld, pp. 152-195.  Your report should include the following:  • Letter of transmittal  • Cover page (not included in word count) • Table of Contents (not included in word count) • Executive Summary  • Introduction: Include brief background information, purpose, scope and limitations • Research & Analysis: This will be the main body of your report • Conclusions: This is the summary of what you have found • Recommendations: these need to be specific suggestions on what the company can do • References (not included in word count)
