Although the tasks in this assignment are all based on the scenario provided above you need to support your discussion with relevant theories and concepts.

Hint:

Try to identify and choose a medium to large travel and tourism organisation with hospitality operations.

Consider you are being posted at the company Head Quarter with visiting assignments in a number of sites with hospitality operations for a period of 6 months.

Provide a one-page summary of your chosen organisation as an introduction (this will not include in the word count).

Avoid using cut and paste materials when writing and completing assignment.

Any scenario related materials can be attached in the appendix.

Recommended word limit is 3000, excluding the introduction and appendices, if any.

Assignment Tasks

Task 1 for LO 1:

  1. Discuss the scope and scale of the hospitality industry within the travel and tourism sector and its interrelationship and examine the role of hospitality function using your experience in your chosen organisation. [P 1.1]
  • M1: to achieve M1 you need to have applied an effective approach to research the role of hospitality industry in the travel and tourism sector using appropriate methods.

Task 2 for LO 2:

  1. Explain integration in hospitality sector organizations and analyse with example drawn from your organization or other relevant organization how horizontal and vertical integration in the industry (you may consider wider tourism and hospitality sector) affects the hospitality businesses. [P 2.1]
  • M2: A range of sources of information has been used in analyzing the effects of integration in the hospitality sector.
  1. Discuss the impacts of integration and how the organisation decides to respond to the consequences of integration. Consider both vertical and horizontal integrations.
  • D1: Critically analyse both vertical and horizontal integration in the hospitality and similar organisations and draw conclusion on the impact based on synthesis of ideas.

Task 3 for LO 3:

  1. Develop a rational for a new hospitality business/project outlining the product-service concept [P3.1].
  • M3: you should have developed coherent and logical principles in developing the rational for the new concept
  1. Develop and produce a project proposal: target market, location, operating model (including staffing), and design based on a thorough market potential analysis with suitability and acceptability criteria in mind. [P3.2].
  • D2: Undertake substantial activities to plan, manage and organise the development of the proposed business plan.
  • D3: To achieve D3 you should have applied effective thinking in unfamiliar context to assess the financial feasibility of the proposed hospitality business.
